Sleeping

Little cubicles of night
release the beasts
they grew so big
when cartoons were reality.

Now they come out
in the eyes and lips
with a child’s temperament
stomping against the world
that we feel as strange,
yet can’t ever get a clear peek
at that monster
who is sleeping in the brain.
